thanks. actually I intentionally reduced vibrancy here, thus the orange became brown. :)

Holy moly. That is amazing. Could you recommend any tutorials / hints / whatever to help me learn this style? I'm slowly learning how to create complicated fractals, but am far from reaching your level...

I assume the blue-yellow alternating 'crosses' is the main background. A crop to create rectangles, and some unknown variation/method to create the yellow glow/lining. Then these rectangular holes are filled with the same thing that makes up the bicentric (bipolar? flow?) basis of the pre-final transform, and then some final transform to turn it in a tri-centric image (???). Looking closer, I can see the rectangular cuts and some other bicentric fill in the blueish background, though the detail is too low at this scale.

Oh, and the blue things are squares. :D

As for the coloring, did you achieve the dark-bright effect by playing with gamma or something else? And what transform did you use as main blur to close the loop?

Sorry if it's too much too ask, I'd just really like to learn this thing. ;P

Thank you! :)

I don't like tutorials and prefer to investigate/explore everything myself, so I can't recommend any specific tutorial for this. Though the "unknown variation/method" that you mentioned is "foci" and I'd recommend some tutorial on how to use it. I believe that tatasz have made a tutorial for it but I may be mistaken.

The blue-yellow crosses are not background but something that I call "pattern". The same pattern then fills the "crop" (you guessed it correct) via "foci", and the empty space between these crops. The rectangular cuts and bicentric fill is the same pattern, rotated 45 degrees and limited using "modulus".
I don't use final transforms but here I used "cpow2" (plugin by Zueuk) to transform "foci" into tri-centric shape, which you may call final. Later this shape was distorted a bit using "curl" to make it less predictable.
And no, blue things are not "squares" but the same pattern again, just scaled down and shifted on gradient.

The bright-light effect was achieved using gamma, yes. I don't understand what you mean by "close the loop" but I've used "sineblur" (Blur Package) as a blur, transformed into square/rectangle using "smartshape" (unreleased plugin made by me). You can achieve almost the same result without "smartshape" using "pre_blur" + "sinusoidal".

You may see the close up picture here - Fix Close Up. It may give you more understanding how it's made.

Have fun. Feel free to send me a note for more details.

Whoa, that is incredibly helpful, thank you so much!

By "close the loop" I meant the transform used to receive (xaos) the 'last' transforms without allowing them to completely mess up the entire gradient, which in your case is indeed a blur. (I assume you already know but you can easily create square-shaped blurs using the square plugin ;).)

I'm a little familiar with foci but not with modulus or cpow2, so I'll look into those functions later.

In the close up I can see the alternating pattern much better now, indeed not squares. The simplest thing I was so sure of, and so wrong with :D

Thanks again and keep up these amazing works!

The "square" transformation gives uniformly distributed square, which in my case would be undesirable. "pre_blur" + "sinusoidal" gives square that is brighter at edges and transparent in the center, which fits best if you want to put something else in the center (in my case it's "foci" pattern). And I've used "sineblur" > "smartshape" because it gives you control on edge brightness and center transparency.

Foci may be a bit tricky to use sometimes. Understanding how it works in raw math will be very useful. It's one of the transformations that I would put into "top 10" list, along with "cpow2" and "post_smartcrop" (which I used to create shadows here".

Thanks for support, and good luck making technical fractals.

PS: I remember your "Yinean" abstract fractal series from the days when I joined DA (which is the time when you made them). They even inspired me to make stuff like Glows in the Dark, Silence and White Peak - Dark Peak back then. It would be fun to see technical stuff from you. :)

Oh wow, I didn't imagine I'd inspire one of the main fractal artists on deviantART, let alone with the non-technical (and basically just random heavily post-processed) fractals :D

Hopefully I'll learn enough of technical fractals to create things similar to yours :) (and tatasz, boxtail, etc).

I prefer using the term "explore" rather than "learn" when talking about fractals. The word "learn" implies that you do something that someone else already done. And it kills all the fun. :D
Anyway, good luck in your exploration. :)

although it requires a lot of thinking to steal it different enough =)
speaking of foci, you should totally try stuff like tanh / sinh / sech - tanh is basically foci, but the other ones are pretty cool too ;)

I've used a couple of new tricks here, which I believe will be hard to steal. So don't worry about "different enough". :)
Thanks for the recommendations. I remember trying to use these plugins but never finished any of these attempts. Guess it's a good time to try again.

I had a lot of fun just making chains of them, and then filling elliptic splits with a series of different ones.
